She has been making art collages since 2014 and participated in several international collage art productions and exhibitions.

Riikka mainly uses materials that are between 50 to a 100 years old, which exude the passing of time and the vintage world.

Riikka Fransila, “I have always shown curiosity about arts in general, but it was not until I found Dadaism that I decided to start making art myself. I had my first collage art exhibition year 2018, and after since it has been more and more important thing in my life. Creativity is a skill that grows, develops and strengthens with use.”

She expands, “I am obsessed with mixing vintage and found commercial imagery to create completely new and expressive compositions. I am an old school paper, scissors and glue collage artist. My surreal pieces juxtapose imagery that otherwise would not be caught together: human faces and body parts, flowers, plants, cars, tools, animals and many other paraphernalia. Old vintage fragile materials speaks to me and keeps my feet on the ground in this digital modern society, I collect material all over the world. I see treasures in another people's trash, I scour flea markets and antique shops everywhere I travel. Magazines and imagery from 50's are most wanted but anything you can cut is possible source material.”

“Around the world, people are recognizing the importance of creativity. The arts should be universal human right. I want to encourage people from all walks of life to engage with the arts. It's not necessarily about everyone choosing the arts as a profession, more importantly, it's about helping people integrate the arts into their own lives. For me, making collage art is a tool to express my fears and dreams. It is my creative therapy in this crazy world.” - Riikka Fransila
