Artist 225 Raji Bamidele Afro-Contemporealism

Raji Bamidele (born 1994) is a Nigerian contemporary artist who merges Hyperrealism, with figurative and conceptual creations which he calls "puzzled realism". He is also known as RADELART.

The multi-disciplinary approach to his work, which weaves differing materials and methods belonging both to contemporary and modern art forms, calling into question the existence of time and being.

By creating an increasingly dark panels embedded with charred coal layers sometimes in the form of symbols and intricate patterns Raji regards these canvases to be the essence which provokes a philosophical commentary through material.

It addresses the infinite and the finite, immortality and mortality, the microcosm and macrocosm, in addition to the socio-political and historical preconceptions surrounding ‘blackness’ and its universal implications.

He chooses to work in a strictly limited world. Focusing mostly on the resilience of the human spirit as the world he imagines is perfectly curated puristically—which tends to cancel out materiality, transferring it to the realm of the spiritual & the alchemical.

His work considers the natural laws, mathematical, philosophies & scientific principles, whose practice examines the everyday innermost activities of mankind. He explores personal and political narratives but is primarily centered around Hyper-realistic works with the use of multi mediums and seeks to instil a sense of divine order to all around him.

He works across multiple mediums but adheres mostly to his chosen medium of charred coal to embed his canvas’s surface with moods and richly varied texture. His colour palette of black, white, rhinestones and gold create figurative piece, installations. Raji Bamidele’s work fuses apparent contradictions, synchronizing the philosophical and the microscopic, decadent , the spectacular and the invisible, seeking to heighten the experience of the spectator by creating immersive environments that transport the viewer into other worlds.
