Don't use it as an Excuse
This installation of found objects and the performance within it are a personal interpretation of social anxiety and the caging feeling it inflicts on the audiences. The manikins hold multiple meanings as vessels of fear or reflect how fake we are in society. It deals with the constant presence of society and the difficult pressure placed on people in trying to be ‘normal’ and ‘good’.
The theme of integration and recontextualisation fail as it proves impossible to function normally. By installing the cage against a corner it shows how fragile the structure is and the ugly, dirty roughly joined dolls is contrasted by the soft interior.
The performance reflects the internal turmoil. It is a 24 hour piece where the artist escapes to the inter part of the cage. This is symbolic of how suffocating society is and further how a person can without being seen drown.
